Follow-up Working Group Session to the Woodlawn Summit

Please join us for the follow-up working group sessions to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration located at 969 E. 60th from 9 am to 11am. The Woodlawn Summit Meeting report will be distributed.

Chaddick Spring Mobile Workshop

Join the Chaddick Institute as we explore how public-private partnerships are revitalizing Hyde Park. This half-day mini-bus excursion to innovative developments underway will include stops to:

 

The 53rd Street Corridor

This collaboration between the University of Chicago and the City, slated for completion in 2013, will feature150,000 square feet of office space leased to the University, 440 parking spaces and approximately 80,000 square feet of retail space in addition to a new hotel. Construction is underway! Speakers will include:

 

  • James Hennessy, Director of Commercial Real Estate Operations, University of Chicago
  • Wallace Goode, Executive Director, Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce
  • Gabriel Piemonte, Editor, Hyde Park Herald
  • Wendy Walker Williams, Executive Director, South East Chicago Commission

 

The University of Chicago

Ellen Sahli, Director of Civic Engagement at the University of Chicago, will discuss the University’s work with the community on its latest developments, including the University’s Woodlawn Avenue Plan.

 

The Woodlawn Neighborhood

Bill Eager, Executive Director, Preservation of Affordable Housing, will give us a guided tour of Woodlawn Park, a redevelopment project that will create: attractive housing for all income levels, a walkable streetscape, urban recreation opportunities for children and support services for residents including job training, youth nutrition and safety programs.Caroline Ouwerkerk, Urban Network, University of Chicago, will provide a backdrop to the tour and discuss her research on community revitalization in the neighborhood.

Register by tomorrow, April 10th for a discounted registration price of $20.  

Fee fully refundable through April 10th.

After April 10th, registration is $45.

 

Location: Bus pick-up and drop-off will be at Ogilvie Station (northeast corner of Madison and Canal) to provide easy access for those taking Metra from the suburbs.
