Map of Chicago Neighborhoods

South Side Story at The Real Estate Center & Chaddick Institute Annual Conference.

You are invited to engage in a powerful panel on February 12, 2026 taking an insightful look at the diverging forces affecting the South Side, which promise to transform certain neighborhoods as others struggle with another round of divestment and population loss.

“Chicago’s South Side has been rising for decades, shaped by rich culture, deep history, and diversity. While economic investment has taken time to catch up, organizations like the SECC have been laying the foundation since 2010—supporting small businesses and creative entrepreneurs while strengthening commercial corridors through public art, streetscape improvements, and neighborhood identity projects,” says Diane Burnham, Executive Director of South East Chicago Commission.

“Today, investments such as Quantum, the Obama Presidential Library, and the Pullman Gateway are bringing national attention. We look forward to this momentum spreading across the Greater South Side so the people who live and work here can thrive.”

This panel will look at the momentum behind heavily publicized initiatives while reviewing areas that are developing new strategies to jump-start investment.

Panelists Include:

  • David Doig, President, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives
  • Diane Burnham, Executive Director, South East Chicago Commission
